Scotus College

Scotus College was a seminary in Bearsden, Glasgow. It was founded in 1985 under the name of Chesters College and served as a Seminary for all the Diocese of Scotland except Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh who still ran Gillis College, Edinburgh.

In 1993 Chester College was reconstituted as Scotus College and with the integration and closure of Gillis College, creating the National Seminary, under the patronage of the Blessed John Duns Scotus, a philosopher-theologian of the High Middle Ages.  It was then the only remaining Roman Catholic Seminary in Scotland.

The College was affiliated with Maynooth Pontifical University, Ireland who accredited Diplomas and Degrees for Scotus College.  The College closed in 2009 and the remaining students were sent to Rome to complete their studies.

The Scottish Catholic Archives hold the records of Scotus and Gillis Colleges.  The Archives of St Peters, Bearsden, Cardross, Newlands and Chester College are held at in the Archives of the Archdiocese of Glasgow.
