My gt-gt-grandfather's youngest sister Jane Leonard, died in St Margaret's Whitehouse Loan in 1924.  She had been there about 40 + years. According to the 1891 and 1901 census she was a Nun and a housemaid.  I would like to know if there are any records of her time as a Religious and her place of burial.

Her parents were Edward Leonard and Catherine Hanley (although her death certificate has her mother's name slightly wrong). Jane was born at Kelvinbridge Glasgow in 1851 and baptised at St Joseph's Woodside.

The records of St Margaret's Convent (the Ursulines of Jesus) are located at the Scottish Catholic Archives.

From various records, it is likely that information regarding her religious life can be provided and from the burial register maintained for the convent, she will likely be buried in the 'convent plot' either at the Grange cemetery or Mount Vernon.

If you live within reasonable distance of Edinburgh, your research would benefit from a trip to the Scottish Catholic Archives. If not, limited research can be carried out by Archive staff.
